LS polls: Assam-54%, Tripura- 70% till 3 pm & Sikkim-52.5% till 2 PM 52

In Assam, a total of 54 per cent votes were cast till 3 pm for the three Lok Sabha seats where polling is on in the second phase today.

Election office sources said polling was peaceful and Karimganj(SC)recorded 55 per cent polling, Silchar 65 per cent and Autonomous District(ST) comprising Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district 45 per cent.

EVM malfunctioning was reported in Autonomous District and Karimganj constituencies. The machines were later replaced and voting continued uninterrupted, the sources said.

Voters, including women and youth, formed long queues before the 3698 polling booths of the three constituencies an hour before polling began at 7 am.

A total 29,26,762, including 15,26,082 women and 86 others will cast their votes during the day.

In Tripura, 70 per cent voters cast their votes till 3 pm in East Tripura (ST) constituency. According to election commission officials, the percentage of polling will cross 70 per cent.

Computation of all votes of all the 30 assembly segments in this constituency is yet to be completed.

The officials said, there were Eleven EVMs malfunctioned during the poll process which were replaced immediately.No untoward incident was reported.

The constituency had recorded 83 percent voter turnout in the last Lok Sabha election.

In Sikkim, a turnout of 52.5 per cent was registered till 2 PM for 32 Assembly seats and the lone Lok Sabha seat.

Among the six contestants for the Lok Sabha seat was Tek Nath Dhakal of the newly-launched Sikkim Krantikari Morcha who was pitted against sitting SDF MP Prem Das Rai.

There are 121 contestants for the 32 Assembly seats.Of the total Assembly seats, two are reserved for SC and 12 for the Bhutia and Lepcha communities.
Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, eyeing a record fifth consecutive time in office was contesting from two seats Namchi-Singhithang and Rangang-Yangang.
In Goa, about 64 per cent polling was recorded in North and South Lok Sabha constituencies.
