LS passes Judicial Appointments Commission Bill

The Lok Sabha today passed the National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill, 2014, after the withdrawal of certain amendments by some members. A total of 367 members voted in favour of the Bill in the third round of division of voting.

Later, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan announced that the Bill along with the Constitution Amendment Bill, was approved by two-thirds majority. The Judicial Appointments Commission Bill replaces the existing Collegium system in the appointment of Judges to Supreme Court and High Courts.
