LS passes bill to set up another central university in Bihar

The Lok Sabha today passed the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2014. The Bill seeks to set up a Central University in Bihar, in addition to the existing one to cater to the large scale requirement of higher education in the state.

The bill proposes to rename the existing Central University of Bihar to Central University of South Bihar and setting up Mahatma Gandhi Central University at Motihari in North Bihar. Replying to the debate, Human Resource Development Minister, Smriti Irani said that establishing a Central University in Motihari was a long pending demand of the people in Bihar. She said, the new university will impart quality education to the students.
