LS passes bill to raise workman compensations in case of death

<br/><br/>The Lok Sabha today passed a bill which seeks to raise compensations upto to one lakh forty thousand rupees in case of death of a workman. The Workers compensation amendment Bill also provides for the cases involving compensation to be settled within three months. The amount of money for performing last rites of workmen has also been doubled from 2500 to 5000 rupees. The Labour Minister Mr. Malikarjun Kharge said that even if there is only one worker in a company the compensation will have to be paid in the event of the death of workman. The compensation given to workers would be based on the price index. Earlier cutting across party lines members urged the government to increase compensation to workmen in case of death from the proposed amount of one lakh forty thousand rupees. The members felt that this amount was inadequate.
