LS holding special sitting for discussion on commitment to India's Constitution

The Lok Sabha today began its sitting with a special discussion on commitment to India's Constitution. This was a part of the 125th birth anniversary celebration of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, architect of the Indian Constitution. <br/><br/>In her opening remarks, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said the Constitution is India's holy book. It reflects our national ideals and thinking over the centuries. The Constitution empowers all our national institutions and citizens. It enshrines and safeguards the ideals, values and citizens' rights. <br/><br/>The Speaker said our Constitution has stood the test of time in the last 65 years. It has established the rule of law in the country and has strengthened our social, economic and political goals. As a result, democracy has taken firm roots in India. Mrs. Mahajan underlined that consensus deeply matters in democratic administration. All elected representatives have to work together to solve the problems faced by the people, she emphasised.
