LS drops impeachment motion against Justice Sen

The Impeachment Motion against the Culcutta High Court Judge, Soumitra Sen, will not be taken up by the Lok Sabha. The members joined the Speaker in agreeing that this is the sense of the House on the issue. The Law Minister Salman Khurshid informed the House that the resignation of Justice Sen has come into effect from 1st of this month.Earlier, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla said that Lok Sabha will not take impeachment motion against Culcutta High Court Judge. Several other Union Ministers also said that there is no possibility of taking up this motion in the House as the Judge has already resigned.Earlier, the Lok Sabha Speaker Mrs. Meira Kumar held discussions with the leaders of the political parties and government on taking up the impeachment motion against Justice Soumitra Sen.AIR correspondent quoting Lok Sabha sources reports that most of the parties agreed that there is no need to take up the impeachment motion.The motion has been adopted by the Rajya Sabha on 18 of last month with a two third majority. The proceedings of the impeachment motion were set in process when over 50 Rajya Sabha MPs. moved such a motion.The Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Mohd. Hamid Ansari had set up a special committee constituted to look into the allegations levellled against Justice Sen.The Committee found that the charges of financial irregularities against him to be correct.Justice Sen has been charged with misappropriation of funds as a receiver when he was a lawyer in 80's in the Culcutta High Court besides misrepresentation of facts.
