LS discusses Textile Undertakings (Nationalisation) Laws (Amendment & Validation) Bill

The Lok Sabha today took up the Textile Undertakings ( Nationalisation) Laws (Amendment and Validation) Bill, 2014 for discussion. The Bill aims at continuing with the lease-hold rights vested in National Textile Corporation, NTC on completion of the lease-hold tenure. Introducing the Bill in the Hosue, Union Textile Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar said that the government is committed to the better functioning of the textile mills run by the NTC.

The Minister said that the NTC which had posted a loss of over 600 crore rupees in the 2001-02, has registered a profit of 15 crore rupees in 2013-14. Initiating the discussion on the Bill, Congress MP Ashok Chavan said that government should take steps to improve the functioning of the NTC mills through proper management. He also stressed the need to expedite the decision process relating to the mills for their betterment. Mr Chavan also demanded the hike in existing Minimum Support Price of cotton for farmers.
