The Lok Sabha has taken up the discussion on the Motion of thanks on the President’s address to the Joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament. Initiating the discussion Girija Vyas of the Congress said, terrorism is a major concern threatening the peaceful existence of society.

She said laws should be strengthened all means have to be sought to counter the menace. She also quoted Article 355 of the constitution, under which it is the duty of the Union to protect States against external aggression and internal disturbance. Ms. Vyas said, India is a country proud of its federal structure and secular credentials.

Ms. Vyas reminded that the country is going through a crucial phase of its economic development and the entire world is watching us. She said, as mentioned by President , it is important to embark on a higher growth path and this objective must be pursued vigorously in the 12th five year plan
