LS discusses inflation situation in country

The Lok Sabha took up a discussion on the inflation situation in the country on thursday. Initiating the discussion, Mr. Gurudas Dasgupta, CPI, alleged that the government has failed to check the price rise of essential commodities. As a result, the prices of rice, sugar, pulses and onion are increasing. He said that public distribution system in some States has become non-functional. He suggested a strong political will to fight against the black marketers and hoarders to bring down the prices. But Mr. P.C. Chako, Congress, brushed aside Mr. Dasgupta's allegations and insisted that the government did indeed take necessary steps to bring down inflation.

The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj urged the government to bring back the black money stashed abroad. Participating in the discussion on the inflation situation in the country, Ms Swaraj accused the UPA government of mis-governance. She said the prices of essential food items have gone up and the common man is bearing the brunt. Earlier, initiating the discussion, Gurudas Dasgupta of CPI alleged that the government has failed to check the price rise of essential commodities. As a result, the prices of rice, sugar, pulses and onion are increasing.

He said that public distribution system in some states has become non-functional. He suggested a strong political will to fight against the black marketers and hoarders to bring down the prices. Brushing aside the oppositions' allegations, P C Chako of Congress said the UPA government has taken a series of measures to tackle inflation. The discussion is continuing.
