The Lok Sabha today took up discussion on the Demands for Grants for the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for 2016-17. Initiating the discussion, Santokh Singh Chaudhary demanded the government to review all the defunct schemes being implemented for SCs and STs. <br/><br/>He alleged that the fund allocated for the welfare of these communities are not adequate and it should be raised according to proportion of their population. He said, the government has to become more sensitive to check rising cases of atrocities against these communities. <br/><br/>Participating in the debate, Hukumdev Narayan Yadav of BJP accused the previous government for not taking effective steps to eradicate the caste system in the country. <br/><br/>In a veiled remark against the Congress, he alleged that the opposition has not been able to reconcile to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's growing popularity. Members from other political parties also participated in the debate. The discussion remained inconclusive.
