LS adjourned till 2Pm on promotion quota Bill

The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 p.m. today following disruption of proceedings over reservation in promotions for SCs and STs in government jobs and some other issues. When the House reassembled at noon, members of the Samajwadi Party, BSP, Shiv Sena and some lady members of NDA again trooped into the well. The SP Members raised slogans against reservation in promotions for SCs and STs while BSP members demanded the introduction of the Bill as passed by the Rajya Sabha. Shiv Sena and Akali Dal members were demanding a hike in the Minimum Support Price for cotton. The lady members of NDA wanted an early justice in the Delhi gang rape case. Amidst uproar, papers were laid on the table of the House. Speaker Meira Kumar asked the agitating lady members to give a proper notice to discuss atrocities on women to enable the Government enact a stringent law. When the uproar continued, she adjourned the House till 2pm.
Earlier, the Lok Sabha was adjourned over the reservation issue till noon.

The government today said that the reservation in promotion of SCs/STs in government jobs, will not affect any section of the society. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, the Minister of state for Parliamentary affairs, Rajiv Shukla said, previously all SCs/STs people in government jobs used to get promotion and now it has been reduced to 22 per cent.
