LS adjourned over alleged PC interference in withdrawal of cases

Opposition today targeted Home Minister P Chidambaram over a media report on the withdrawal of three FIRs against a Delhi-based hotelier. This led to the disruption in proceedings in the two houses. They accused the Home Minister of misusing his official position to help a former client. The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after repeated adjournments as noisy scenes were witnessed with opposition BJP members demanding action against the Home Minister.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon following noisy scenes on the same issue. As soon as the House met for the day, NDA members complained against Home Minister's alleged interference in criminal case lodged against Delhi-based hotel owner. Congress members on the other hand waved newspapers carrying the news about the alleged grabbing of land by the Maharashtra Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, of which the social activist Anna Hazare was a prominent member.

BJP and CPI leaders said that these allegations appear to be very credible and pressed for Chidambaram’s resignation.

The Home Ministry today said Chidambaram did not have any role in the withdrawal of three FIRs against S P Gupta, who runs M/s Sunair Hotels Pvt Ltd and was accused of cheating and forgery.
