LS adjourned for the day over quota bill

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Wednesday. As soon as the House met after its third adjournment, Minister of State for Personnel V. Narayanasamy got up to introduce the Bill for reservation of SCs/STs in promotions in government jobs.

In the meantime, the Samajwadi Party members surged into the well protesting against the legislation. The Minister continued reading his statement amidst the uproar. Suddenly one of the members of Samajwadi Party snatched the paper from the Minister's hand.

The UPA leader Sonia Gandhi promptly got up to intervene and tried to take back the paper from the Samajwadi Party member. As the disruption continued, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the House till tomorrow.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath today deplored the incidents in Lok Sabha, terming it as a sad day for democracy.

Speaking to media persons in Parliament House, he said debate or voting has no meaning, if such incidents occur. Mr Kamal Nath said the Bill will be introduced in the House tomorrow.
Mr Kamal Nath said his party will take up the matter with the Speaker.
