In Assam, peaceful voting is on for 5 constituencies. These seats are- Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Kaliabor and Tezpur. Additional Chief Electoral Officer R C Jain said that 28 percent voting has been recorded during first four hours.
He also said that 28 EVMs have been replaced due to technical errors. Voting in a few booths have been delayed of 30 to 45 minutes due to malfunctions of EVMs.
But voting resumes after the replacement of EVMs in those polling booths. A total of 51 candidates are in fray in this phase.
Over 64 lakh voters can exercise their rights today. Out of which, around 1 lakh 80 thousand are new voters. They are also queuing up outside polling booths.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his wife Doli Gogoi exercised their franchise in Jorhat. DoNER Minister and Congress candidate Pawan Singh Ghatowar and Union state minister Rani Narah, BJP candidate from Dibrugarh Rameshwar Teli and Asom Gana Parisahd candidate Anup Phukan also exercised their voting rights.
Several ministerial colleagues of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also casted their votes. State Law and Order IGP, S N Singh said that no untoward incident has been reported and a strict vigil is being maintained by security forces.
