LPG, kerosene price hike on hold in some states

The government has put on hold a hike in prices of LPG and kerosene in states where an increase in local levies had led to a rise in fuel rates. It has been put on hold pending consultations with the state governments on state-specific levies. However, the reduction in prices will be passed on to consumers. The increase in state levies such as entry tax and octroi led to prices of domestic LPG rising in Kerala by 4.50 rupees per cylinder, 3 rupees in Karnataka, 5.50 rupees in Madhya Pradesh and 1 rupee per cylinder in Uttar Pradesh. There was a small increase in PDS kerosene rates of 2 paise in Haryana and 8 paise in Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, a reduction in state levies led to a cut in LPG prices by 9.50 rupees per cylinder in Assam, 1.50 rupee in Bihar and 3 rupees per cylinder in Maharashtra. An official release said, rates of kerosene sold through the public distribution system fell by 11 paise per litre in Maharashtra and 1.32 rupees per litre in Navi Mumbai.
