<br/>The Delhi government has withdrawn the proposal of imposing VAT on LPG. The government also withdrew the five per cent VAT on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) besides bringing back the VAT for tea, coffee and cocoa to five per cent from the proposed 12.5 per cent. The Finance Minister Mr. A K Walia announced this in the Delhi Assembly during his reply on BUDGET on Monday. <br/><br/>The Finance Minister also announced 5 per cent exemption on CNG. Walia's budget proposals to increase VAT on several items had triggered protests from opposition BJP as well as from ruling Congress MLAs. The government also had proposed the withdrawal of subsidy of 40 rupees on the cooking gas cylinder that would have increased the cost of the cylinder to 322 rupees from the present 282 rupees. As a result the withdrawing VAT, cooking gas cylinder will now cost 309 rupees from the 1st of April. <br/><br/>The budget was passed unanimously in the Assembly, as BJP members were not present in the House because they were marshaled out during their protest earlier in the day.
