Lorry owners nationwide have started their indefinite strike in demand of removing tolls in national highways. Speaking to reporters at Namakkal, Tamil Nadu Lorry owners Sammelan President Nallathamby said, more than 92 lakh lorries all over India will not be plying as part of the strike. He said, in Tamil Nadu alone, more than 7 lakh lorries will not ply. More than 1 lakh 62,000 booking agents have not opened business today.<br/><br/>The lorry strike may lead to rise in prices of essential items. The lorry owners are insisting that 373 tolls in national Highways should be removed. In Tamil Nadu lorries, including national permit lorries, trailers small transport lorries are not plying as part of the strike. The nationwide lorry strike is expected to lead to a loss of Rs 15,000 crore according to lorry owners association. <br/><br/>The lorry owners say that in Tamil Nadu alone lorry owners will suffer a loss of Rs 10 crore daily and state government will lose about Rs 200 crore. The lorry owners are also demanding revoking the order of installing speed governors in lorries.
