The campaign group, Human Rights Watch has accused the long established Lord's Resistance Army rebels of once again abducting hundreds of people in Central Africa, many of them children. Human Rights Watch says, hundreds of people were taken from their homes in remote regions of Central African Republic and the north of the Democratic Republic of Congo. About 700 individuals have been abducted over the past 18 months. Some of whom who escaped told tales of children being forced to kill other children and trained to treat other human beings as animals. The report says girls were used for sex or as servants and the refusal to do so is often punished by death. To escape abductions, 54 thousand villagers have fled from their homes in northern Congo. Human Rights Watch called for swift action by the United States and regional governments to bring the LRA leaders to justice to end their campaign of violence.
