In Afghanistan, more than two thousand artifacts, lost earlier are on display at Kabul national museum since on Tuesday. These ancient exhibits were mostly looted during the civil war of early nineties and were seized at London airport in 2004. But it took more than five years to return these historical objects to Afghanistan as the national museum was under renovation to showcase these items. The Kabul museum was one of the richest in its display before the beginning of three – decades long war. When the pro-communist government collapsed in the early 1990s and civil war engulfed the country, artifacts began to disappear. Nancy Hatch Dupree, US historians living in the country since last 40 years said many of those items were stolen and looted and are now on display in museums of foreign countries. She said there are collections similar to Afghan artifacts sitting in Switzerland, Germany and other parts of Europe which need to be returned.
