Long-standing payment problem with Iran resolved

The long-standing payment problem with Iran has been resolved with rupee payment mechanism coming in to operation. Exporters will be allowed now to receive payment for shipments to the Islamic nation in the Indian currency. This was stated by Federation of Indian Export Organisations President Rafeeque Ahmed in New Delhi on Friday.The problem with Iran began after the Reserve Bank of India withdrew the Asian Clearing Union – ACU – mechanism in December 2010. Payments were made to Iran under this mechanism following US sanctions. Iran makes up for over 12 per cent of India's oil needs.
