London Olympics: Action enters into third day

As action enters into third day in the London Olympics today, athletes will be competing in 18 events as diverse as Archery, Badminton, Tennis, Hockey, Boxing, Shooting and Volley Ball. There will be a mix of elimination and qualification rounds, preliminaries, quarter finals and finals. Fourteen medals will be at stake . So far, athletes from 19 countries have won 38 medals. China leads the medal tally with 6 followed by 5 each by the United States and Italy, 3 each by Brazil and South Korea and others have claimed one each. Among the Indians to watch out today will be Saina Nehwal who is a strong hope of a medal in Badminton. She begins her campaign against Swiss Sabrina Jaquet in her Group E round-robin match. Jwala Gutta and V.Diju will clash with Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Thomas Laybourn of Denmark in their Group C second mixed doubles match. In Boxing, Jai Bhagwan will feature in light weight division and Vikas Krishnan in men's welterweight category. In Rowing, Sandeep Kumar and Manjeet Singh will compete in the heats of the lightweight double sculls . Heena Sidhu and Annuraj Singh will be in fray in the women's 10 metre air pistol event. In Archery, all hopes rest on World No.1 Deepika Kumari. In Table Tennis, Soumyajit Ghosh takes on Hyok Bong Kim in men's singles second round. In Tennis men's doubles first round, the pair of Leander Paes and Vishnu Bardhan and the duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna will face their respective rivals.
