Lokpal bill draft to be ready by 30th June: Moily

Government today said that the draft of the Lokpal bill will be prepared by 30th of June. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh yesterday said that the bill will be introduced in the monsoon session of Parliament. Law Minister and member of the drafting committee Mr Veerappa Moily called upon both the social activists and the political leaders to refrain from making statements and counter statements on the issue. The representatives of social activists and ruling party members have been trading charges over each other on the issue in the wake of a latest CD controversy. Speaking to the reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Moily emphasized instead of getting emotional, the focus should be on the preparation of the draft legislation. The ten member joint drafting panel on the Lokpal bill was constituted on ninth of this month after protests by the people led by social activist Anna Hazare. Senior Congress leader and Chairman of the Lokpal Bill drafting committee, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee has said that the working of Lokpal Bill drafting panel will not be affected by controversies over some members. Following the meeting of Congress core committee in New Delhi this evening, Mr. Mukherjee assured that the Committee's government members will work with Anna Hazare and colleagues to draft a strong Lokpal bill.
