Lokayukta to be model bill: Narayansamy

The government on Saturday said it is considering a model Bill to bring uniformity in the selection process of the anti-corruption watchdog Lokayukta.

Speaking at the valedictory session of two-day biennial conference of CBI and anti-corruption bureax of states in New Delhi, Minister of State of Personnel and Training, V. Narayansamy said, Lokayukta will be a model Bill so that the state can bring uniformity in the law. He said in the selection process, states are involving the political people. The minister said government will ensure that there should be an independent process for the selection.

He said the government will also consider amendments for easing of attachment of properties of corrupt officials. He reiterated Prime Minister Singh's assurance yesterday saying the government will fight till the last to retain the autonomy of the CBI.

Speaking on the occasion, CBI director A P Singh said, there is a need for greater coordination between CBI and state anti corruption bureaus.

Earlier, Mr. Narayansamy presented medals to the meritorious officers of CBI. Chandigarh wing of the anti corruption bureau bagged the gold medal for the best branch for 2009.
