Lok Sabha witnesses repeated adjournments on various issues

The Lok Sabha witnessed repeated adjournments today on various issues including the arrest of TMC MPs by CBI in chit-fund case. The TMC members protested in the House against the arrest of two of its MPs Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Tapas Paul by the CBI while the Congress MPs tried to raise the issue of alleged ill-treatment of family members of former Union Minister and IUML leader E Ahmad at a government hospital.<br/><br/>As soon as as the house met for the day, the opposition tried to raise their issues, but Speaker Sumitra Mahjan did not allow them and started question Hour. But due to the ruckus, she had to adjourn it till 12 noon. When it reassembled, the Speaker disallowed the notices of adjournment given by various members of the opposition parties. <br/><br/>The opposition protested, but the Speaker continued with the listed business. Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya withdrew the Payment of Wages (Amendment) Bill, 2016 which was introduced in December, 2016 and instead introduced a fresh bill in its place. <br/><br/>He said that under the new bill all the payment of wages to labour would be in a transparent manner through cheques, bank transfer and digital means. This would reduce exploitation of labour which was earlier happening in cash payments. <br/><br/>Finance Minister Arun Jaitley introduced the Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilities) Bill. After that the opposition members once again started creating ruckus forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 1 PM. When the House reassembled, Sugata Roy once again raised the issue of the alleged misuse of the CBI .At the same time, the treasury bench members also raised some issues to counter the opposition. <br/><br/>Congress MPs were also seen in the well trying to raise their issue.amidst the din, the Speker had to adjourn the House for the day.<br/><br/>On the other hand, the Rajya Sabha did not face any adjournement and continued with the listed business. Trinamool Congress members in the Rajya Sabha staged a walkout protesting against the alleged illegal arrest of their Party leader in the Lok Sabha.<br/><br/>This is for the second consecutive day that they walked out on the same issue. The issue was raised by Derek O'Brien of the TMC. He also demanded that the House should observe silence as a mark of respect of over 100 people who reportedly died in the queues before ATMs post demonetisation.
