Lok Sabha takes up general discussion on Union Budget 2017-18

The Lok Sabha has taken up general discussion on the Union budget 2017-18. Finance minister Arun Jaitley has presented the budget on February 1st. Initiating the debate Congress leader M Veerappa Moily said the budget has no vision of reform .<br/><br/>Criticizing government's stand on demonitisation, he said it has largely affected the common man and for the last two months banking transactions were only confined to withdrawal and deposits of money. <br/><br/>He said the NDA which is accusing the UPA government for high NPAs is actually increasing in the present dispensation. Mr Moily charged that the government is not serious to revive the economy of the country.<br/><br/>Speaking from the treasury benches, BJP leader Hukmdev Narayan Yadav hit out at the Congress alleging during its rule it has not focussed properly on poor and deprived sections of the society resulting large scale inequalities now.<br/><br/>Mr Yadav said the Narendra Modi government has felt the pain of the poorest of the poor and accordingly devised schemes to uplift their living standard. He said the government has announced to provide 6ooo rupees to pregnant women for maternal benefit programme and better nourishment.
