Lok Sabha today took up discussion on the Sustainable Development Goal – way forward for the health and well being for all. Before the discussion started, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan highlighted the importance of the issue and appraised the House about the goal set up by the UNO for the welfare of people.She said, it is also the duty of Parliamentarians to bring awareness among the people about health challenges. <br/><br/>Initiating the discussion, Anurag Thakur pitched for spending large share of the GDP in the health sector to provide better health care facilities to the common men. <br/><br/>Mr. Thakur said the state and central government should work together for ensuring universal health care for the people. He stressed the need for availability of generic medicines for the people in the country. <br/><br/>The people are suffering form various types of non-communicable diseases including diabetes,cardiovascular disease and Blood Pressure. The MP said the NDA government has taken several steps in the health sectors. He also mentioned about the National Health Policy unveiled by the government for providing universal care to all. Mr Thakur also expressed concern over the recent incident of attack on doctors in Maharashtra and said, it should not happen.<br/><br/>Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of Congress demanded that the right of health care should be given Constitutional status. He also expressed concern of low spending of the country's GDP on health sectors. He stressed on the need to have an innovative approach to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal.
