Lok Sabha takes up discussion on agrarian conditions in country

The Lok Sabha today took up a discussion on agrarian conditions in the country. Initiating the discussion Congress` Jyotiraditya Scindia demanded registration of criminal cases against those responsible for police firing on farmers in Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh.

He also demanded farm loan waiver scheme for the country and fixation of minimum support price of crops on the basis of Swaminatahn Commission recommendations.

He alleged that prices of farm inputs including fertilisers, pesticides and seeds have gone up after implementation of GST and government has failed to control the price of diesel despite lesser price of crude oil in international market.

He said farmers are unable to get remunerative price of their produce and are forced to throw tomatoes, potatoes and milk on the roads.

Participating in the discussion BJP`s Virendra Singh demanded a special session of parliament to discuss farmers issues and find out solutions. He said allegations and counter allegations will not help solve farmers' issues.

He said a road map should be worked out for timely consumption of the perishable items like potato, tomato, grapes, orange and milk.

He suggested that such products should be supplied to army canteens, their messes and Mid Meal Scheme. He said loan waiver is not solution to farm loan issue, rather government should make arrangements so that farmers should not turn into debtor.
