Lok Sabha Speaker addresses inaugural session of 2-day Executive Committee Meeting of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has said that India is a strong supporter of democratic values and governance and our democratic system is one of the oldest democracies in the world. He was addressing the inaugural session of the two-day Executive Committee Meeting of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in Guwahati today.<br />'' <br />'' The Lok Sabha Speaker said, Indian people strongly believe in democratic system of governance and large number of people's participation in elections proves this. In India, we can see democratic system of structure from the grassroots levels of Panchayati Raj to the highest post and this democracy binds us together despite diversity of our culture, geography and beliefs, he added.  <br />'' <br />'' Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimari and CPA Acting Chairperson Ian Liddell-Grainger were present during the inaugural ceremony. A total of 75 delegates from 12 countries participated in the meeting and 13 nations participated virtually.<br />''
