<span style="color: #222222;">The Lok Sabha has recommended the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022 to the Parliamentary Standing Committee for further examination. Amidst uproar by the Opposition, Power Minister R. K. Singh introduced the bill and agreed to send the same to the Standing Committee for examination.<br />''<br />''The Electricity (Amendment) Bill enables competition in retail distribution of power by allowing use of other distribution licensee's network. It permits the entry of private companies into the electricity distribution sector, with the objective of enabling competition, enhancing efficiency of distribution licensees for improving services and ensuring sustainability of the power sector. &nbsp;<br />''The members from Opposition parties opposed the introduction of the Electricity (Amendment ) Bill, 2022, accusing the Centre of encroaching upon the powers entrusted with the states in the concurrent list. RSP MP N. K. Premachandran said, the Electricity Bill is against the federal set-up. He said that the bill allows infrastructure developed with the public money to be handed over to the private players. &nbsp;<br />''<br />''Opposing the bill, Congress MP Manish Tewari said, it will substantially weaken the states. TMC MP Saugat Ray termed the bill as anti-people. DMK MP T. R. Baalu questioned the intention of the Centre in sending the bill to the Standing Committee without even listening to the concerns of the Members.<br />''<br />''The Power Minister said that all the concerns raised by the members will be discussed in the Standing Committee. At this point, Opposition members including the Congress, DMK, TMC and left parties started sloganeering opposing the bill and demanded for division on the issue of sending the bill to the Standing Committee. Amidst, sloganeering the Speaker OM Birla recommended the bill to the Standing Committee on voice vote.</span><br />
