In Uttar Pradesh, the ruling Samajwadi Party today decided in principle not to put sitting MLAs and state government Ministers for next Lok Sabha elections. It was decided in a high level meeting of party functionaries at party headquarter in Lucknow which was chaired by party President Mulayam Singh Yadav. Quoting party sources, our Correspondent reports that the party has appointed 58 observers for different Lok Sabha constituencies for selection of candidates. They have been asked to submit their reports to the party President within this month.AIR correspondent reports that about 1000 applications have been received by the party for Lok Sabha candidature. Party leadership had asked interested party cadre to stake their claim for the ticket for next Lok Sabha elections by the end of May this year and provided a set proforma charging 10 thousand rupees as fees. Observers said that after getting a taste of success in recently held Assembly polls, the ruling party is now focusing on 2014 polls and feels that timely selection of candidates could better its prospects.
