The government today reiterated that petrol prices are the lowest in the country compared to other countries in view of the current global situation and international petrol prices. Replying to supplementaries during question hour in Lok Sabha, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that between 2021 and 2022 there was only 2 percent increase in petro prices in the country while internationally crude oil prices went very high.<br />'' <br />''The Minister said, while the average price of Indian basket of crude oil increased by 102 percent between November 2020 and November 2022, the retail prices of petrol in India have increased by only 18.95 percent and that of diesel by 26.5 percent. He said that to bring relief to common people, Central government reduced the central excise duty twice in November last year and in May this year. He added that some state governments also reduced value-added tax on petrol and diesel, however, five states have still not made any reduction to give relief to the common people.
