The Lok Sabha on Friday passed the Indian Institutes of Management Bill,2017 by voice vote. The bill seeks to declare certain Institutes of management to be the institutions of national importance with a view to empower these institutions to attain standards of global excellence in management, management research and allied areas of knowledge.<br/><br/> Replying to a debate on the bill, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the legislation will empower the existing 20 Indian Institute of Management,IIMs to grant degree to the students. He said, the aim of the bill is to grant autonomy and freedom to these best institutes to conduct their academic affairs and for better functioning in the field of education and research.<br/>He said, there will be no interference from the government side as it is in favour of providing autonomy to the best educational institutes. <br/><br/>He said, the post of Directors are being filled up in IIMs. He said, the IIMs will have the power to offer attractive packages to the best faculties. Shashi Tharoor form Congress, Poonam Mahajan form BJP and membersfrom other parties participated in the discussion.
