The Lok Sabha today passed the Commercial Courts, Commercial Division and Commercial Appellate Division of High Courts Bill, 2015 . The Bill enables the creation of commercial divisions in High courts and commercial courts at the district level. It also provides for setting up Commercial Appellate Divisions in High courts to hear appeals against the orders of commercial divisions of High Courts, commercial courts and appeals arising from arbitration matters that are filed before the High courts.<br/><br/>As per the legislation, suits currently pending in the district courts with a value of one crore rupees or more would be transferred to the commercial courts. However, a suit will not be transferred if a final judgment on the matter is pending. Replying to a debate on the bill, Law Minister Sadananda Gowda said, the Commercial Courts will help expedite disposal of cases related to commercial disputes.<br/><br/>He also said, the government has taken several steps in the direction of judicial reforms. He said, pendency of cases in Supreme Court, High Courts and District Courts have come down to some extent due to the measures taken by the government.
