Members in both the Houses of Parliament today paid homage to the martyrs who laid their lives during the Quit India Movement in 1942. Making a reference to mark the 70th anniversary of the Quit India Movement in the Lok Sabha, the Speaker Mrs Meira Kumar said the movement galvanized the entire nation to unitedly raise its voice for freedom and liberation. She said on this occasion, the country pays respectful homage to the Father of Nation and to all the martyrs who laid down their lives in the freedom struggle.
In the Rajya Sabha, the Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari said the whole nation responded to clarion call of Mahatma Gandhi and participated in the movement with single-minded commitment and dedication, which culminated in achieving independence.
