The Lok Sabha today took up a discussion on the sustainable development goals. Initiating the discussion, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal said poverty and hunger has come down in the country during the last two decades while education levels have gone up. <br/><br/>He stressed the need for providing safe drinking water and toilet facility to all to achieve millennium development goals. Quoting an UN report, he said 1600 deaths are being reported every day across the country due to drinking water contamination leading to six lakh deaths per year. <br/><br/>Dr Ramesh said addressing problems such as drinking water supply and mother and child health care issues is must for achieving development goals. The discussion remained inconclusive.
