The Lok Sabha today took up the Motion of Thanks to President Ram Nath Kovind's Address to the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament. <br/><br/>Moving the Motion in the House, Rakesh Singh of BJP said the Narendra Modi government has taken several initiatives towards providing quality healthcare and education, affordable housing, social security and welfare of the people. He said the NDA government treats every caste and religion as one family. <br/><br/>Mr Singh attacked the previous government over the issue of corruption. He said earlier people were talking about corruption, but they are now discussing about development. <br/><br/>He also alleged that cleanliness was not the priority of previous governments unlike the present regime. He said the Government has taken steps to increase the farmer's income and the Government is committed to doubling of farmers' income by 2022. The BJP member also made a reference to Soil Health Card scheme.<br/><br/>Prahlad Joshi of the BJP, who seconded the Motion, said, over 14 lakh core rupees have been allocated in the Union Budget for agriculture sector and rural areas. He said, India has emerged as the fastest growig economy in the world. He said, over 31 crore accounts have been opended under of Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana and 73,000 crore rupees have been deposited under it. <br/><br/>Participating in the debate, Mallikarjun Kharge of the Congress accused the government of failing on all fronts and not fulfilling the promises made to the public.He said, during the UPA, the GDP growth had touched 9.1 per cent, but in the present regime, it came down to 6.3 per cent. <br/><br/>He said, despite the low price of crude oil in the International market, prices of diesel and petrol are going up. He said, the government should have made full preparation before the rollout of the GST as MSME sector is facing problems due to it. Mr Kharge also demanded the government bring the Women's Reservation Bill in the House so that it could be passed. <br/> <br/>P Venugopal of AIADMK, Kalyan Banerjee of TMC, Anandrao Adsul of Shiv Sena, Mohd. Salim of CPI(M) and Om Birla of BJP among those participated in the discussion.The debate is continuing.
