The Lok Sabha has taken up for discussion the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) (Amendment) Bill of 2010. Piloting the bill, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr Mullapally Ramachandran said the amendment is aimed making the MP representing the New Delhi area a member of the NDMC with voting right. Initiating the discussion, Mr Kirit Azad of BJP welcomed the move. The discussion remained inconclusive.AIR Correspondent reports that the amendment is aimed at revising the procedure for presiding over the meetings of the Council. Under the amended law, the number of members of the Legislative Assembly, who are the members of the Council, will be reduced from three to two. The number of members representing certain fields will be increased from two to four. The bill also provides that out of 13 members, there shall be at least three members who are women and two members belonging to Scheduled Castes in the Council, out of which one shall be from the nominated members representing certain fields.
