Lok Sabha discusses Union budget 2017-18

The Lok Sabha has taken up discussion on the Union budget 2017-18 and initiating the debate Congress leader M Veerappa Moily said the budget has no vision of reform. Criticising government's stand on demonetisation, he said it has largely affected the common man and for the last two months banking transactions were only confined to withdrawal and deposits of money. <br/><br/>He said the NDA which is accusing the UPA government for high NPAs is actually increasing in the present dispensation. Mr Moily alleged that the government is not serious about reviving the economy of the country.<br/><br/>Speaking from the treasury benches, BJP leader Hukmdev Narayan Yadav hit out at the Congress alleging that during its rule it has not focussed properly on poor and deprived sections of the society resulting large scale inequalities now. <br/><br/>Mr Yadav said the Narendra Modi government has felt the pain of the poorest of the poor and accordingly devised schemes for their upliftment. He said the government has announced to provide 6ooo rupees to every pregnant woman better nourishment<br/><br/>Participating in the discussion, Sougata Roy of TMC termed the Union Budget as conservative. He said, the budgetary allocation for MGNREGA has been increased marginally to 48 thousnad crore rupees as compared to the last year. <br/><br/>He demanded to allocate more funds to this scheme. He also said, there is no provision of Minimum Support Price in the budget. Jaydev Galla of TDP demanded the government to create a separate budget for agriculture sector. He said, the government should withdraw 2000 rupees new currency notes and introduce 200 rupees currency note to check possibility of further accumulation of black money. <br/><br/>A P Jithender Reddy of TRS criticised the Centre for not fulfilling the commitments made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisations Act. He requested to fulfil the legitimate demands of Telangana. P Venugopal of AIADMK welcomed the Union Budget and merging of Rail Budget with it. He said, in the budget, the MGNREGA fund has been increased which is a welcome step. <br/><br/>P Karunakaran of CPI(M) demanded the government to introduce the Women reservation bill in the Lok Sabha as it was already cleared in the Upper House. He said, his party will support it when it comes to house.
