The Lok Sabha today passed supplementary demands for grants of about 55,000 crore rupees for the year 2010-11. The house adopted the demands through voice vote after discussion.The Finance Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee had sought authorization of payment and appropriation of certain claims from the Consolidated Fund of India. The Finance Minister said most of the supplementary demands are for social sector projects and to meet the under recoveries of oil marketing companies. Participating in the debate on the demands while opposition alleged that the Finance Minister has neither been able to diagnose the reasons for the phenomenon of price rise and nor prescribe the right steps. The members belonging to treasury benches hailed the impressive achievements on the economic front and urged the Government to take more steps to further bring down inflation.
