The Lok Sabha was adjourned at 4.30 PM itself today as the house covered all the items in the agenda by then. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned in the morning without transacting any business as a mark of respect to Arjun Sengupta, a sitting member of the House who died in the inter session period. Paying tributes to the departed leader, Chairman Mohd. Hamid Ansari said, with the sad demise of Sengupta, the country has lost an eminent economist, noted diplomat and an able Parliamentarian. The House also paid tributes to former members Yamuna Devi and S.S. Chandran who also passed away recently. Expressing sorrow at the tragic loss of lives in Indonesia due to Tsunami, the House conveyed heart felt condolences for the bereaved families. The House stood in silence for a while in the memory of the departed souls.
