Lohri is being celebrated in north India. The festival has a special significance in Punjab. Farmers celebrate Lohri to have a good yield of wheat crop. For those who had been recently married or blessed with a child, Lohri is full of excitement.
People are celebrating the festival by sitting around bonfires after performing prayers to Agni by putting five things in the fire including Moongphali, Gur, Gachak, Til and Phuliyan or Phulley.
The festival strengthens the bond of brotherhood between people living around as they collectively celebrate it by sitting around the bonfire eating and dancing.
Many organisations in Punjab have dedicated the occasion to the cause of the Girl Child and for eradication of unethical practice of female foeticide.
