Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day following continuous uproar on issues such as demonetization and plight of farmers and Agusta Westland case. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha could not transact any business.

When the Lok Sabha reassembled at noon after the first adjournment , Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said, his party is ready for discussion on demonetization immediately without any rule or voting. Sudip Bandhopadhyay of TMC also urged the chair to start the discussion on demonetisation without delay.

Criticising the opposition, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar accused it deliberately not allowing any debate from the day the session began on November 16. Charging the opposition of attempting to derail the note ban decision, he said Congress is trying to manage the currency post-demonetization when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a campaign against black money.

Mr Kumar asserted that in the VVIP chopper scam issue, middleman Christian Michel has named the first family of the UPA and, therefore, Congress is running away from a debate. He suggested there should also be a discussion on the VVIP chopper scam.

Infuriated by Parliamentary Affairs Minister's remarks, the Congress members trooped into the Well and shouted slogans against NDA government. Amidst noisy scenes, the Chair adjourned the House for the day.

Rajya Sabha also witnessed repeated adjournments before adjourning for the day at 2 PM. When the House reassembled post-lunch, Deputy Chairperson P J Kurien tried to resume discussion on demonetisation that was initiated on the first day of the session.

However, members from both treasury benches and the opposition started sloganeering forcing the adjournment of the House for the day. Earlier, when the House met this morning, Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad raised the issue of the plight of farmers due to drought and demonetization. Congress charged the ruling party with disrupting the proceedings claiming it unprecedented.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi refuted the allegation. As the din persisted, the House was adjourned till noon. After the House met at noon, some treasury bench members were on their feet displaying newspaper clippings and opposition members shouting slogans. This led Chairman Hamid Ansari to adjourn the House for half an hour.
