Loan waiver from Andhra for losses due to ‘Jal’

Andhra Pradesh Government has announced waiver of interest on crop loans to the farmers who suffered losses due to recent rains and Jal cyclone. Replying to the discussion took place for last two days in the Legislative Assembly, on the last day of its winter session, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said interest over the crop loans disbursed during the year in the cyclone affected areas would be waived to tune of 350 crore rupees. This is the first time that the state government has been waiving interest on crop loans.The Chief Minister has also enhanced the input subsidy for agriculture losses as well as losses relating to animal husbandry and fisheries. The input subsidy has been raised to 6000 rupees from the present 4500 rupees per hectare for Paddy, cotton, Ground nut and Mirchi. The subsidy has been also increased to 15000 rupees from 10000 rupees for major milching animals, where as sheep and goats will get 2000 rupees. Weavers would get 5000 rupees subsidy which is doubled while damaged boats get up to 10000 rupees. Meanwhile, the chief minister has urged the centre to declare the recent calamity due to heavy rains and Jal Cyclone a National Calamity. He also asked for relaxation of the Food Corporation of India norms so that the discoloured paddy and rice may be procured for Minimum Support Price.
