In Tamil Nadu loading of enriched uranium fuel has been completed in the Koodankulam nuclear power plant. The power generation will start soon. This is however subject to Supreme Court’s ruling on Public interest litigations regarding safety issues of the nuclear plant.
The loading of 163 enriched uranium subassemblies into the nuclear reactor of Koodankulam nuclear power plant has been completed. The loading of uranium fuel started 19th of last month in spite of continued protests in Idinthakarai. The nuclear experts of Atomic energy regulatory Board and Russian nuclear officials are now inspecting the nuclear plant. There will be a series of tests as per the guidelines given by AERB and then slowly the nuclear reactor will be brought to criticality. Since there are litigations in Supreme Court Power generation in the much awaited 1000 MW Koodankulam Nuclear power plant is going to help Tamil Nadu tide over the present electricity crisis.
