President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the 89th Annual Literacy Conference of the Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan in Bengaluru Yesterday. Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, High Court Chief Justice Subhrakamal Mukherjee participated in the programme. <br/><br/>Inaugurating the 89th Annual Literary Conference of the Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan President Pranab Mukherjee said that Literature plays a vital role in national integration and communal harmony. Bengali language has an history of almost 1000 years and Bengali literature has strengthened the nation, Mukherjee said. <br/><br/>Study of literature will keep the mind in peaceful status. Kannada and Bengali literature have history of long connection and relations he said. In the earlier days kings were fought for land and not for language, so language unites everyone the president said. <br/><br/>All religious literature are like rivers, they finally merge as one in the ocean. All literature should converge in one platform to enrich the culture and language he said. Literature can give us the platform to interchange and interact with fellow men, Mukherjee said.
