In Assam, different literary, social and women organizations have launched massive awareness drives against black magic practised in the interior areas of Kokrajhar and Baksa districts. This follows the killing of seven innocent tribal villagers last week in Kokrajhar, including five women, by miscreants suspected of practising witchcraft . A couple was brutally killed at Hatigorh village in Kachugaon and another person lost his life at Barmanpara village in Kokrajhar district yesterday. The Bodo Sahitya Sabha and the All Bodo Students Union are organizing a number of rallies and literary meets in the interior Sarfanguri, Samtaibari, Saraibeel and Kachugaon-Jaleswar areas to educate the people against superstition and health hazards. Similar programmes have also been launched at Debasora and Kharua areas in the Baksa district. Several organizations have alleged that the social menace has turned alarming in these areas following lack of proper health education and other society developmental activities.
