In Nepal , National Education Day and the International literacy Day was celebrated on Thursday. On the occasion, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav conferred the Nepal Bidyabhusan awards to PhD Students from Tribhuvan University and outstanding students of various level at a function organized in Kathmandu .Speaking on the occasion the President called upon the students to use their skills for nation building. The Education Ministry had organized various functions throughout the country with the slogan ‘Ensure Quality Education with Working skills and TechnologyThe United Nations in a statement said that the International Literacy day being celebrated under the motto of Literacy for Peace has a special significance for Nepal .The world body said it provides an opportunity to promote importance of literacy where more than forty-three per cent of the adult population are not literate.The International Literacy day which is also observed as Education day in Nepal to highlight the importance of learning and writing.The UN says in Nepal there is a chance that a large number of the population will remain out of the development and peace process as they are not literate. It is estimated that five million women and many children are also missing out of their right to education.The exclusion to the benefits of literacy will exclude them to better livelihoods, improved health and other opportunities and remain vulnerable to discriminatory practices.This annual celebration provides an opportunity to promote the importance of literacy for social inclusion and informed knowledgeable people fully aware of their rights and responsibilities.
