Lionel Messi sensationally announced his retirement from international football after Chile beat Argentina in the final of Copa America this morning in penalty shootout. Messi's dramatic announcement followed Argentina's third loss in a major final since 2014. The 29-year-old said it hurts not to be a champion. He said he did all he could do for his country but for him the national team is over.Messi, however, he will continue to play his club football for Spanish champions F.C. Barcelona.Messi, the FIFA World Player of the Year for five times made his debut for Argentina in 2005, going on to make113 appearances. He is the highest scorer for Argentina with 55 goals. With Barcelona, Messi has won eight La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues. But his only major international honour is 2008 Olympic gold.
