Lightning claimed 26 lives in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.In Andhra Pradesh, 17 people were killed in different districts after being struck by lightning on Sunday.State Disaster Management Commissioner T Radha told reporters the highest number of 10 deaths were reported from Guntur district and two deaths each in Khammam, Warangal and Prakasam. One person died due to lightning elsewhere.In West Bengal, nine persons were killed after being struck by lightning in Howrah district on Sunday. Official sources said 16 others, who were injured in the mishap, had been admitted in a local hospital. The condition of six is stated to be critical. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the family of the victims.
