In Odisha, at least six persons were killed and seven others injured in separate lightning incidents in different parts of the state even as heavy rains together with thunder continue to disrupt normal life for the last 24 hours.
AIR correspondent reports, two women working in the field died and five others were injured when lightning struck near Gunthupada under Aska police station in Ganjam district of Odisha.
A farm labourer was killed in lightning at Sathiabati village under Mahakalpada police station in Kendrapara district, while two daily labourers were also killed when lightning hit two different places in Keonjhar district of the state.
In another incident, a youth was killed and two others were injured in lightning in Athagarh block of Cuttack district. The injured have been shifted to different nearby hospitals.
A low pressure area has been formed over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts this morning, The weather office at Bhubaneswar has predicted rains with thunder at most places over Odisha and heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places during next two days.
Surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 km per hour may also prevail along and off Odisha Coast. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea.
